For over a decade, Henson has devoted his time to the needs of local established and emerging communities. Born in China Sichuan, where the friendly panda originates, Henson grew up in Canton and migrated as a student to Australia 19 years ago.
Henson and his wife Carina (a Burwood local) are proud to raise their lovely children, aged 11 and 5 ½, in Burwood.
“As a migrant, I feel especially blessed to be surrounded by my large extended family, all Burwood locals. You can find us relaxing and playing at our favourite locale, Burwood Park.”
An active Deputy Chairperson of the Inner West Chinese Chamber of Commerce, a committee member of the Chinese Community Council of Australia, and a member of the Marrickville Ethnic Communities Committee, Henson is committed to ensuring that the most vulnerable people are supported.
“Having lived and worked in the Burwood and Inner West area for 15 years, I understand the issues which affect our community, like retaining planning powers with Council, improving safety in our public spaces and providing services for migrants who can’t speak English”.
Henson believes in community participation and representation in all areas of local council, that the views of the range of communities are a given a strong and effective voice.
“The concerns of residents have been brushed aside for far too long. We need to inject new blood into the council and start making a real difference.”
A graduate of the University of Sydney, Henson holds a Master of Architecture Building Design Science now running a successful business in real estate. He is a registered Property Valuer and a Justice of the Peace. Henson is passionate about applying his professional qualifications and 15 years business management experience to improve Council’s town planning and management. A fluent Cantonese and Mandarin speaker, Henson will build stronger ties with the Chinese community in Burwood.
“I want Burwood Council to be regarded as best practice in innovative town planning, with all members of our community safely enjoying and utilising the beautiful parks and walkways.”
Henson’s interests include golf, football, bushwalking, table tennis, boating, fishing and spending time with his family.
