LIBERALS SAY NO TO EXPLICIT MATERIAL IN BURWOOD
Candidates for the Liberal ticket on Burwood Council, John Sidoti and Henson Liang supported Corey Bernardi (South Australian Senator) when he addressed a group of concerned Liberals at Cabarita on Monday.
Senator Bernardi was the instigator of the recent Senate “Inquiry into the effectiveness of the Broadcasting Codes of Practice”. Senator Bernardi, a former Australian representative rower, says that while he is not a wowser and enjoys the colourful use of language that permeates so much of Australian life, but has come to question the increasing prevalence and use of foul and coarse language, sexually explicit advertising particularly on highly visible roadside billboards, and increasing violence in television and films.
“I felt much empathy with Cory Bernardi having three of my own children under nine, I also struggle explaining some of these explicit messages to my own children” said John Sidoti.
Cory is a man committed to improving the environment in all its aspects for future generations and initiated the Inquiry that received bi-partisan support for a timely response to complaints made with the Australian Communication and Media Authority.
Both John Sidoti and Henson Liang as family men, fully supported these sentiments and agreed to apply high standards to any future Burwood Council decisions applying to outdoor advertising.
