THE BURWOOD LIBERAL TEAM PLANT FOR THE FUTURE
On Sunday July 27 2008 at Henley Park, Enfield the Burwood Liberals team, Henson Liang, Joe Alvaro and Stephanie Kokkolis joined leader John Sidoti as volunteers to take part in Australia’s biggest community – tree planting event, National Tree Day.
“We are committed to caring for the environment here in Burwood and were proud to roll up our sleeves and join the local community by planting native trees.
Planting trees is an effective way to deal with serious environmental issues like salinity and soil erosion. It’s also about growing a future for our children” said
John Sidoti.
“I understand that this year is the 13th National Tree Day and that the total number of native trees and shrubs planted at National Tree Day sites since 1996 is almost 12 million. We were delighted to add to this number at Henley Park” said Stephanie Kokkolis.
Joe Alvaro said “National Tree Day was a great example of the important contribution that volunteers make to the Burwood area.”
“It’s easy for volunteers to just blend into the background of society. However we believe it’s important that we recognise and support our volunteers here in Burwood
as they play a vital part in improving and enhancing our wonderful suburb, as we witnessed on National Tree Day” said Joe Alvaro.
Henson Liang added that “Our team will be reviewing the public open space needs of Burwood and how these can be expanded to meet our environmental needs as a matter of priority. We are committed to providing more green open space in Burwood Local Government Area.”
John Sidoti and his liberal team will continue to support initiatives such as National Tree Day in Burwood in the future.
