Remembering Sandakan

Burwood Liberals John Sidoti and Joe Alvaro attended a memorial service at the Sydney Sandakan Memorial in Burwood Park on 3rd August 2008 to remember those who served and sacrificed their lives in Sandakan in Borneo.

John Sidoti said " Sandakan is considered one of the worst wartime experiences during World War II. I was proud to attend the service and remember the many Australians, including 23 men from Burwood, who died on the notorious death marches in 1945 in the jungle of Borneo. On behalf of my team I salute and honour the memory of these brave soldiers."

At the service John Sidoti laid a wreath during the Tribute Ceremony.
